Day 83 - The Offspring - Ignition
The early epitaph years, Ignition captures this band when they were visiting small punk clubs and not stadiums. Selling out or just being opportunistic, you have to admit the Offspring have come a very long way. No one forms a punk band to make money. But that money comes at a financial cost too, I bet 75% of the songs on this one would never make it onto anything they’ve put out on Columbia because it’d be too controversial. LAPD comes to mind, being both the language of it’s lyrics and it’s content. It’s a song about the Los Angeles PD in the 80’s punk scene. I’ve always wondered what would be of this band, had they went on their own label, Nitro in the mid-90’s instead of Columbia. They were plenty popular, so getting their name out there was already done. Why own a label and be in a band if you arn’t going to put your own band on it?
